A 12-year-old girl ended up in hospital when a school bus she was travelling on was hit by a projectile believed to have been launched from a slingshot.

A motorist said a young male was seen near the intersection of Canberra Avenue and Lanyon Drive at 7:15pm on Monday where he fired a rock at a moving car with a slingshot. He was described as aged 13-15 and wearing a yellow singlet.
A short time later the school bus carrying 41 students and three teachers was fired upon shattering a window and leaving the girl with glass in her eye. She was taken to Canberra Hospital, treated and released with no serious injuries.
The offender in this instance was described as 16-years-old with curly long hair and a camouflage hat and shirt.
Slingshots are classified as prohibited weapons under the Weapons Prohibition Act 1998ā.
