A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for Queanbeyan and the surrounding region.

The Bureau of Meteorology has warned of the possibility of destructive winds, large hail stones and heavy rainfall over the next few hours.

A low pressure system is tracking eastwards across NSW, triggering thunderstorm activity through parts of the state.

The State Emergency Service has advised people to move cars under cover or away from trees, secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony, and keep at least eight metres away from fallen power lines.

  • For emergency help in floods and storms, ring the SES on 132 500.
