The show will see the return of the wood chop competition after almost 20 years and will feature everyone’s favourite classics such as sideshow alley and more animals than ever.

The show has brought on a new president after 15 years and Eddie Zarb said he’s excited to keep growing the show for the Queanbeyan community.

“Our previous president put in a lot of good work over many years,” Mr Zarb said.

“I want to continue what he started but then bring in some new ideas and point the show in a new direction as well.”

The Zarb family has been connected to the show since 1980 when Eddie’s father Fred Zarb began providing animals to display in the petting zoo. 

Fred Zarb said there was nothing quite like the excitement of the children when they interact with animals. 

Eddie said he remembered the excitement of the show as a kid when he helped his dad and wanted to bring that to a new generation.

“We’re really trying to keep animals a main part of the show and keep it as agricultural as possible,” Mr Zarb said.

“Obviously sideshow alley is a lot of fun but that’s a part of any show, anywhere so we really want to partner it with lots of great community events.”

Canberra’s The Voice success Lucy Sugarman will perform from 7.30pm on Saturday night and the annual fireworks display will close the night out from 9pm.

The farmyard nursery will run throughout the two days and there will be no shortage of animals across the weekend with a cattle dog display poultry, sheep, goats and horses all on display. You can learn some handy hints from the team at Bunnings and be impressed by the competitors in the wood chop and strongman competitions.

Many of the schools in Queanbeyan will have students performing and children will be kept well entertained with activities like face painting and carnival rides. The show will shut down for a period on Saturday morning to signify Remembrance Day and will hold an 11am service.
