While Santa is normally seen at Christmas delivering presents in a sleigh, in Canberra they were seen delivering gifts in a rather different mode of transport. More than 800 motorcycle riders took to the streets of Canberra on Saturday to take part in the ACT Motorcycle Riders Association's annual toy run.

Now in its 37th year, the event saw riders from Canberra and surrounding areas do a lap of the city starting at Old Parliament House, before returning to donate toys, money and food to charities. Toys were donated to The Salvation Army as part of its Christmas appeal, while food and more than $4000 in donations were given to St John's Care. Motorcycle association vice president Jen Woods said preparation for the run had been underway for months.
"There's a lot of planning for a ride like this," she said.
