According to the Jerrabomberra Creek RFS unit all fire permits are suspended with Thursday’s fire danger rating listed as ‘very high’.
Queanbeyan can expect to hit 34 degrees on Thursday with the temperatures trending upwards across the weekend.
Friday should bring a maximum of 38 degrees followed by 39 on Saturday and 36 on Sunday.
Temperatures are not expected to drop until next Tuesday with the chance of some rainfall, however they will likely remain in the low 30s.
Residents will get some reprieve during the evenings when overnight temperatures are predicted to fall to around 15 degrees.
Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Jonathan How said a large hot air mass being dragged down from Central Australia was responsible for the elevates temperatures.
The heat is travelling from western NSW where they can expect daily maximums in the mid-40s.
Temperatures on the south coast are predicted to be much milder with tops of 33 degrees on Friday and Saturday before a 29 degree maximum for Sunday.
NSW Police reminded motorists that leaving children and pets unattended in a vehicle is an offence that can prove fatal.
NSW Health advised the community to take necessary precautions during the heat such as remaining well hydrated, staying out of the sun during the hottest part of the day, limiting physical activity, limit alcohol and keep an eye on children, the elderly and those with medical conditions.
Residents are also advised to check the Bureau of Meteorology website for up to date weather conditions and the Rural Fire Service website for information to total fire bans and fire danger.
