Sophie Edwards, Ned Philpot, Mondecreen and The Baker Boys Band have been selected to support dynamic headliners The Aston Shuffle at the Canberra region's biggest free music festival, Googfest, in February. 

Sophie Edwards has been performing solo for many years but will be joined at Googfest by a talented and versatile band. The 18-year-old singer-songwriter has just finished her first year of a music degree at ANU, specialising in jazz, though her own songs range from laidback acoustic to high energy pop pieces. 

"Googfest is going to be amazing," Sophie said. "I am so excited that the wider community will have a chance to hear my original works."

Sophie and her backing band will perform a mixture of originals and some pop covers, which will include Alive by Sia and the hit Green Light by Lorde. 

"I love a whole heap of musical genres, and I chop and change a lot, but pop is what I love most," Sophie said.

"Most of my original material is about my own life and experiences. I've never performed before such a big audience so, rather than going solo, I wanted to bring in the band so all the pressure is not just on me." 

2017 was a big year for Sophie who performed at 114 gigs, and whose attention now turns to headlining her own solo gig in the upcoming year. 

Also performing at Googfest is dynamic duo Mondecreen, who have established themselves as bass driven and funk influenced party starters. 

Mondecreen founders George Stavridis and Roshan Fernandez first came together in 2014, when they met at a party and became friends after freestyling a song together during the ride home. 

Their eclectic musical background, which has wound its way from jazz, through the eras of hip hop and electronica, has evolved into a high energy and upbeat sound. 

Their musical talents have seen Mondecreen support acts like Triple J regulars Olympic Ayres, Boo Seeka, ASTA, Alex Lahey, Citizen Kay and SAFIA.

The name Mondecreen caught on after a member of the group played with the term "Mondegreen" which is a misunderstood or misinterpreted words that result from a mishearing of the lyrics of a song. And the name has stuck since. 

"We can't wait for Googfest. It's always a great pleasure to perform on a large stage and to have the opportunity to branch out from hole in the wall venues," George said.

"It's such a joy to see a big audience jump and go crazy."

George and Roshan are big supporters of the Canberra music scene and love to perform at Transit Bar and Phoenix Bar, and even contributed merchandise to raise money to keep the Phoenix open. 

Googfest has grown into one of the biggest free concerts in the ACT region.
