The old facility was demolished last year with the site remaining vacant since. In November 2016 the company said construction was due to begin in the middle of last year with an expected completion date late this year.
Warrigal has advised it now expects to open its doors to the $32 million facility in late 2019.
The company said any delays have been minimal and were due to receiving necessary approvals for certain work.
When the plans for the new facility were announced one concern was for the welfare of residents who would have to leave the facility during construction.
In a statement, Warrigal said two full time staff had been engaged to support residents affected by the development.
“This support included finding alternative arrangements, assisting with the logistics and providing financial support to physically move residents to the alternative option of their choice,” the statement read.
Some residents chose to move to Warrigal facilities in Goulburn and Bundanoon and other chose to remain in Queanbeyan at other facilities.
The company confirmed all previous residents have an offer to return to the new facility upon completion.
The new facility will boast 125 suites, a day spa, wellness centre and commercial bistro. It has been likened to the experience on a cruise ship.
Warrigal chief executive officer Mark Sewell said the development signified confidence in the Queanbeyan area.
“Not only will these services be available to the residents living onsite, and our existing village residents who will be living next door to these new services, but to the broader Queanbeyan community, which also makes the new development such a stand-out,” Mr Sewell said.
“We want the whole community to feel welcome and to come and enjoy spending time with the residents.”
Mr Sewell added the closeness to the CBD will help add vibrancy to the town centre and he expects the construction phase to provide a boost to local businesses catering to tradespeople and using local products and services.
When fully operational the new development is expected to bring 100 new jobs to Queanbeyan.
