A Ferrari has allegedly been caught speeding at 233km/h on the Hume Freeway – the highest ever speed detected by the Wangaratta Highway patrol.

A 47-year-old male driver and 36-year-old female passenger from Sydney were pulled over at 1.20pm on Wednesday after triple-zero calls.
Sergeant Michael Connors said the car was first spotted at Springhurst and officers took up a position near Greta Road as the car travelled more than twice the speed limit towards Melbourne.
“They said it was a big straight and, their own words, they wanted to give it a little squeeze,” he said.
“If something goes wrong at that speed, there are no second chances.”
The Ferrari was seized under the hoon legislation and will be impounded for 28 days, plus the driver will be charged with offences including dangerous driving to appear at Wangaratta Magistrates Court at a later date.
Sergeant Connors said the speed was incredibly dangerous and he was thankful the Ferrari pulled over for police without incident, meaning the situation did not result in a high-speed pursuit.
“The only sensible thing the driver did was to stop when signalled by police,” he said.
“Any speeds of this nature will not be tolerated.”
