Lake Burley Griffin shut right down which made things hard for the Native Cup. Anglers that did get a native caught them in the shallows and in the first hour of fishing.
Yerrabi was the opposite; fish schooled around the in-flowing pipes and hung around for a few days. Unfortunately even though the fish were in good numbers, they were all very small – around the 30-35cm mark.
They hit the lure very softly and at first I thought they were little reddies! But after adding a stinger hook to my plastic I soon discovered they were small yellows.
Googong also turned up the heat after the rain. Over the last two weeks it has consistently produced some Googong 'tanks'. Quite a few anglers have been cracking the code of the dam and really starting to produce the goods. Adam Rolls and Roman have both been very consistent with big fish, and it just shows that time on the water is paramount to figuring out the secrets to Googong.
I really thought the marlin fishing couldn't get better but over the last week it's been electric – some of the best fishing in a few years.
Quite a few large bait balls are found with multiple fish feeding up. Most action has been off Tuross kink, but the bait hole and 12 mile off Bermi have also been very active.
