But, the Kangaroos were fortunate to just have a team on the park, their captain said.
The Roos were facing the prospect of having to pull the plug on their plans to field a team in the relaunched open women's tackle competition due to a lack of players.
It was the Kangaroos captain Emma Day took matters into her own hands to ensure she could play rugby league.
"We put out a post on Facebook and we found people who were looking for a club," Day said.
Day's effort discovered a whole new 25 players who were willing to play for the Kangaroos.
However, it was close to the start of the season by the time Day could confirm the Kangaroos would participate in the competition.
From then on she worked hard to make sure the team would be ready.
"It is a lot of work.
“You have to organise uniforms, training, coaches, first aid, league safe officers, everything," Day said.
It was a tough start to the competition, having been beaten by the Yass Magpies 14-0.
However, the Kangaroos managed to score their first try of the season through second rower Tanisha Williams at Seiffert Oval on Friday night.
But despite the Kangaroos' physicality and competitiveness, it wasn't enough to trouble an impressive Blues outfit who ran in seven tries.
It was Caliah Welch who stole the show scoring three tries for the Blues.
Meanwhile, Blues teammate Sammie Wood, who was selected for country in the inaugural women's City-Country Origin match on Sunday, chipped in with a further two tries.
The Queanbeyan Kangaroos will regroup for their next round with a bye this weekend.
The Queanbeyan Blues face off against West Belconnen on Friday night.
