The Queanbeyan Kangaroos breathed a sigh of relief when former Bulldog Crisp returned to the Canberra Raiders Cup last week after fulfilling work commitments.

Crisp played a pivotal role in his comeback match - a 38-point win against the Gungahlin Bulls in round 13.

He missed just one of his 10 conversions attempts and his reliable goal kicking is the reason he's the competition's leading point-scorer with 154 to be 26 ahead of Queanbeyan Blues star Terry Campese. 

Now he's back, Crisp wants to chase another premiership but says the Kangaroos need to lift their game.

"We need to really get back to playing Kangaroo style footy which is getting physical, getting people in front of spaces and playing aggressive," Crisp said. 

With the squad riddled with injuries, Crisp was shifted to fullback last week, a position he admits he hasn't played in more than five years.

Captain-coach Aaron Gorrell is ecstatic the experienced player is back and hopes Crisp stays for the rest of the season to guide the team into semi-final contention.

"He is probably the biggest fullback in the world and it is handy to have him back as he will be there again this week, so hopefully we have him for the rest of the year," Gorrell said.

A husband and father of three, Crisp is unsure if he is likely to travel back to Darwin for work but conceded in order to play semi-final football his team needs to play consistent with smart structures.

The Kangaroos will play against the seventh-placed Goulburn Bulldogs on Saturday and Crisp hopes players coming back into the squad will spark the team.

"We really hope we can get that aggressive edge back when we play Goulburn," Crisp said.

Gorrell's side has had to to rely on players backing up each week with only securing two fresh reserves on the bench. 

Gorrell said the Kangaroos are struggling with injuries as well as missing several players who are away with ACT Schoolboys and oz-tag teams.

"I think to still keep winning in all grades in the last few weeks which shows great depth in our kids coming through and the squad that we have," Gorrell said.

"Hopefully we start getting some troops back soon but every club is in the same position. So we aren't going to sit there and cry over spilt milk."
