Amphibious wheelchair: The weather isn’t optimal for using it right now, with the start of the winter season, but it is exciting to announce that Q-One Aquatics, with the help of the council’s Access Committee, have purchased an amphibious wheelchair to use in the new wet play area during the summer season. Waste Management Working Group: Council is looking for nominees to join a Waste Strategy Working Group. Council is seeking two residential users from urban areas and two residential users from rural areas, to join business and industry users, councillors and staff on the working group. The ideal members will have a basic understanding of social, environmental and economic components of waste management, and good communication and liaison skills. Participants should live in QPRC and be willing to allocate time to prepare for and attend meetings. There will be four meetings of the working group which are expected to occur within the next eight months. Regional Art Awards: Artists from Queanbeyan-Palerang, Yass Valley, and Cooma-Monaro council areas are encouraged to enter the 2018 Regional Art Awards. Artists can share in a prize pool of $5000. CityCARE park upgrades: Hayley Park East and Jane Hodgsen Park are the next Queanbeyan parks in line for a spruce up thanks to the CityCARE program. Work on Hayley Park East started last week and will include new swings and a shelter over the picnic table. Jane Hodgsen Park’s makeover begins this week and includes the replacement of equipment, refurbishment of swings and table settings. Both projects will take three weeks to complete. As these parks are out of action, there are plenty of others to visit. While new areas of turf are cordoned off to allow them to settle, the upgraded Queanbeyan Park playground equipment is now open for use. It was funded by the NSW Government’s Stronger Communities Fund.
