A Goulburn teenager charged with speeding with drugs in his system and then fleeing an accident scene will face court on Sunday.
Police said Hume Highway Patrol officers were performing stationary speed enforcement during Operation Stay Alert at 11:53am Saturday on the Federal Highway at Collector.
A red Mitsubishi Magna sedan bearing NSW plates allegedly drove past at 150km/h. When police caught up with the vehicle near the Collector Bridge, it accelerated away, reaching speeds of more than 150km/h, they claimed.
Police alleged the car was undertaking vehicles in the breakdown lane in light to moderate rain with wet road conditions. Officers ceased following the vehicle due to the dangerous driving.
A short time later, police saw the vehicle had lost control and collided with trees on an embankment. They patrolled the area and witnesses pointed out to police the direction the driver and two occupants had fled on foot.
Officers gave chase on foot and approximately 15 minutes later, located and detained all three people. The driver, an 18- year-old male, was breath tested with a negative result. A drug test was then undertaken, proving positive to a prohibited drug.
The 18-year old male provisional driver from Goulburn was arrested and taken back to Goulburn police station where he produced a positive result to drugs on the secondary test.
He was charged, had his licence suspended and was refused bail to appear before Goulburn Local Court on Sunday, June 10.
The teenager has been charged with police pursuit - not stop - drive dangerously; drive speed/manner; exceed speed over 45kph; no P plates (on vehicle registered to accused); driver unrestrained; and breach bail
The two juvenile passengers were released by police pending further inquiries.
