It was about 9.20am on August 9 when the police officers in question were travelling on Broughton Place when they noticed smoke emanating from a townhouse.
Upon arrival officers from Monaro Police District were met by Fire and Rescue NSW officers who had also arrived and commenced extinguishing the fire.
Queanbeyan Police remained at the scene of the fire throughout the morning.
A crime scene was then established while officers work to determine the cause.
A number of surrounding residents were also evacuated as a precaution.
We have reports one person was taken to hospital as a result of the fire.
Police seize stolen goods
There have been several recent reports by tourists and local visitors to the ski fields of equipment going missing.
Police may have apprehended the culprit responsible for taking these goods.
At about 8.20pm on the night of Saturday August 11, officers from the Monaro Police District executed a search warrant for stolen goods at a house at Binjura.
Once there Police found various stolen goods.
Including two valuable snow boards, snow boots, adjustable ski poles and other snow equipment.
As a result of the warrant a 33 year old man then residing at the house was issued a Court Attendance Notice for the possession of stolen goods.
The as yet unidentified man is now due to appear before the Cooma Local Court on Friday October 26.
