- Take cuttings of woody herbs such as rosemary, lavender and sage. Pot up for Christmas gifts, while at the same time helping to keep the original plants compact and bushy.
- No garden plot to grow salad greens – just a balcony or a patio? Seek out a polystyrene box. Cover the holes in the base with a piece of sarlon or newspaper; add quality potting mix then sow seeds of leafy greens like mesclun, rocket, chives, silver beet, and bok choi. Keep moist, feed fortnightly and you will have leaves to harvest within weeks.
- Transplant self-sown seedlings of the Erigeron daisy as well as hellebores and euphorbia – mainstays of a cottage garden.
- Feed established roses with some complete plant food, water in well and apply a mulch of old manure and/or lucerne.
