I fished some of my favourite golden hangouts in the Molonglo and didn’t see a fish. Two weeks ago, fish were holding tight to snags and were easy to find, so I’m not sure if the little rain and bad weather we had made them flee and change spots. Some anglers hit the main basin around Scrivener and found some better fish, still in winter-mode in deep water. Bait anglers have been doing well on worms and yabby meat caching goldens, carp and redfin.
On the coast the basin has been hot. Some cracking jewfish, big duskies and fat Taylor were all active last weekend. Just up the road JB has also been fishing well; flathead have been caught in good numbers off middle ground in 40m plus of water, and snapper off the points like Long Nose, Plantation and Point Perpendicular.
A few boys had some fun dragging lures around Bowen Island catching a mix of small kingfish, Taylor and bonitos. Purple and blue minnow style lures did the damage for these anglers. The shelf line from JB down to Eden has been electric this year for shark fishing - Makos, whalers and Tigers all present and waiting for you cube and berley trail.
Eucumbene is on the rise after a long stint on the drop, this in turn has made sight casting from the bank very rewarding as fish have moved in close to the bank to feed. Also with the rivers now open things are looking fantastic in the mountain.
Don’t forget the MEJ’s Big Burley Bash starts this Thursday and runs over 9, with HQ at Orana Bay LBG.
