ACT Premier Cricket is three weeks into its schedule, and already Queanbeyan have recorded a win, a loss, and a draw.
Last weekend’s draw could hardly be considered a fair reflection of the match, as rain ruined what was a promising first innings for the Bluebags.
A four-fer from Vele Dukoski and two wickets from Tyler Van Luin had reduced ANU to 8-85 23 overs into the innings before the rain washed out the rest of the match.
The week prior, Queanbeyan was rolled following a rampant performance from Wests, who bowled the hosts out for 156.
Josh Corbett was the chief destroyer in this instance with 3-35, while he was ably supported by Mat McGann (2-36) and Brendan Duffy (2-37).
Michael Curtale (40) and Stuart Bridgen (31*) resisted for Queanbeyan, but were unable to post a score which challenged Wests.
The visitors comfortably chased down the runs required by the 24th over for the loss of three wickets.
However, the first match of the 2018/19 season was the real highlight for the Bluebags so far.
In a compelling match, Queanbeyan bowled Ginninderra out for 185, with four bowlers taking two wickets or more.
Their own innings was far from smooth, and they were seriously wobbled at 6-124, before Angus Jones joined Michael Curtale in the middle and guided Queanbeyan home.
This weekend, the Bluebags will take on Tuggeranong Valley at Chisholm.
