- Keep weeds at bay with routine hoeing. Use mulches around shallow-rooted plants after watering. Give plants coming into flower a weekly foliar feed.
- Give yourself a colourful Christmas with advanced seedlings in full bloom tucked into pots to decorate the courtyard, patio or balcony – try some of the cool blues with silvery grey foliage as an alternative to the usual red and white, and white petunias for sunny spots. Use impatiens or begonias in the shade while the scarlet bracts of container grown poinsettia bring the festive touch indoors.
- Remember to look after the fish! Hot weather reduces the oxygen in garden ponds, so trickle in a cool hose to aerate the water. Check that the roots of any water plants have not restricted the space for fish to swim.
