“Russell McLelland Brown – RMB Lawyers – was established by Charles Coffee Russell in 1885,” explains Queanbeyan-based associate Anthony Gattas.
“RMB Lawyers was initially a legal practice in Wollongong but has since expanded to 12 offices in NSW. The firm is a multi-dimensional law practice with offices spanning from Sydney to Queanbeyan,” Mr Gattas added.
RMB Lawyers is unique in that it operates within such a large geography but can maintain the uniform processing of matters. This means that a matter that is being run out of the firm’s Wollongong office will have identical processing procedures to a matter being run out of the Queanbeyan office,” he said.
“This ensures that every matter is processed in an efficient manner in accordance with legal compliance standards.”
Mr Gattas described RMB Lawyers as a full-service law firm. They can provide:
- Conveyancing
- Property development and town planning
- Wills & estates
- Disputed Wills (estate claims)
- Compensation and personal injury
- Family law
- Islamic law
- Superannuation and estate planning
- Business and commercial transactions
- Dispute resolution and court work
- Criminal defence
Across their network there are 93 employees performing a variety of jobs from partners, associates, lawyers and conveyancers through to office managers and many support staff positions such as the accounts team, legal secretaries, paralegals and reception.

“RMB Lawyers has a strong regional focus and endeavours to employ people that are familiar or reside in the locality of a particular office,” Mr Gattas illustrated.
“Complimenting this focus is that RMB Lawyers has the systems in place to process any matter out of any office enabling quality legal service no matter where a client is located.”
Taking on this philosophy personally, “I enjoy working in the Queanbeyan area as the local community has been very welcoming to the firm. I do not come from Queanbeyan area or surrounds and was very pleased to be included community events.”
One such example was when Mr Gattas and Hugh Dahlitz (one of the Queanbeyan-based lawyers at RMB Lawyers) provided support for students from Queanbeyan High School in their preparation for the 2018 NSW Law Society Mock Trial and Mock Mediation Competition.
“This is a state-based competition that enables students to participate in mock court and mediation scenarios, usually in front of a magistrate or judge.”
When we asked Mr Gattas what the importance of legal services are, he said “I would strongly recommend that people seek legal advice about any matter in which they have some uncertainty.
“Obtaining legal advice is an excellent safety net to protect the interests of the individual and to possibly avoid future disputes.”
We also asked for an example of any legislative revisions that might affect clients. “There have been recent changes to criminal sentencing options commencing from 24 September 2018. I would highly recommend that people involved in the criminal law space seek legal advice on the new range of sentencing options available.”
