Bright coloured lures or lures with plenty of rattle have worked a treat.
Of course, a few weeks after Canberra’s largest yellow belly comp has wrapped up, goldens have come on the chew.
I found some nice fish off deeper banks at Yarralumla and also Black Mountain Peninsula.
They took a liking to a fluoro green stumpy and Mazzy vibe.
I also targeted weed beds, throwing a small floating shallow diving minnow, running across the weed beds; the buzz of fish charging out at a hundred miles an hour to smash my lure which was unreal.
In this case I was using a Sebile 35mm cranka and a Halco scorpion that both caught reddies and goldens.
The ’Bidgee has been quite productive with good cod on surface and hard body lures; goldens have been a little more active and even fly anglers have been nailing natives and pesky carp.
Some big flathead have been getting caught up and down the coast.
Normally this time of year it’s all about St Georges Basin which is fishing well, but Bermi, Wallaga Lake and Tuross River have been fishing really well.
With some XL whiting, some solid jewfish and cracking flathead on offer, a day on the water in one of these fisheries should be on the cards.
Brogo has been fishing extremely well and has even gone up a gear after all this precipitation.
Have a safe and wonderful festive season, catch plenty and let the big breeders go.
