There are thirty-two paintings from earlier times and his exhibitions in the ACT, NSW, Tasmania and South Australia. The sale is the second Dr Henderson has had in Braidwood, but this stockroom sale is to make way for new work that he is preparing for a future exhibition at the fFYRE Gallery.
The paintings are on display at Henderson’s Celtic Skye Studio, above The Albion Café at 119 Wallace Street (entrance in Duncan Street.) The sale is on throughout the month of January 10.00 am - 4.00 pm.
UK-born Henderson has held a number of appointments since coming to Australia in 1972, including artist-in-residence with a consultancy position in visual arts for an architectural firm responsible for Brisbane’s South Bank development, and Senior Lecturer in Visual Art & Design at the University of New England. For a short period Ian Henderson was an Artist in Residence at the famous Port Arthur Historic Site in Tasmania, and his exhibition ‘Unexpected Journeys in Tasmania’ held at the Salamanca Collection in Hobart in 1992 received important and favourable art reviews.
Major exhibitions of paintings took place in Sydney, Canberra, and Brisbane, and in 1993 he gained a Doctorate in Creative Arts (DCA) in painting) from the University of Wollongong, NSW. His interests are wide and varied, and his paintings have focused on the nature of ‘placeness’ within landscape as well as genre paintings and the way in which the environment has been changed through habitation.
He will be exhibiting at Braidwood’s fFYRE Gallery in early 2020.
