Redfin have been in abundance in our local waterways with Googong leading the charge.
I chatted with a Queanbeyan resident who has fished Googong weekly for over 15 years, and he has been using the same technique to catch a feed – a bottom bashing rig, small snapper lead on the bottom, two size 8 bait keeper hooks, with corn and worm together on the hook.
Shane has caught all freshwater fish on this rig, from carp to cod.
LBG has also fished well for reddies; red and gold blade has worked well.
Early morning sessions on the lake around Lennox Gardens or concrete slabs at Scrivener Dam have been the place to get some fish, and goldens have also been quite active in these areas before the sun is up.
A few nice goldens have been caught in the deeper water at the mouth of the Molonglo using ZX or vibes; vertical jigging on top of the schools and mazzy vibes worked well on sundown around the bridge pillars of Dairy Flat Road, Kings Avenue and Commonwealth Ave.
On the coast, the strong current has made it very hard to locate bait, which has slowed the marlin bite, as well as the summer run of legal kings.
Estuaries, however, are fishing superbly; live nippers are the best for bait and I don’t think you can go past a squidgy blood worm wrigglers, lightly weighted and fished hard into the oyster racks.
