Our first public meeting will not be held until February 27 and we will be back at the Raiders Club in Weston. Still, there are several matters to look forward to and also several to have concerns about.
Work has well and truly commenced on the new service station just off the Cotter Road.
Let’s hope it opens before Gai Brodtmann MP leaves the Parliament as she and the council were instrumental in this happening.
Work should be commencing now on the proposed changes to the bus stops in Parkinson Street to accommodate the new Bus Network.
We will wait and see if the new network starts in April.
It’s wonderful to see the Weston Creek Men’s Shed in a new home adjacent to the Rivett Shops. This is a good outcome over the five years they have been active.
There is a bridge coming to Molonglo over the river, with the tender documents now out, and timelines indicating that the Development Application for the bridge will be submitted later this year with a preliminary approval date of March 2020.
The timing of construction will depend on when the funding is allocated for building the bridge. Hopefully this will be in the 2019/2020 budget to ensure that construction can begin in 2020.
Council is very disappointed with responses received from the Minister for Planning, Mick Gentleman MLA, on issues facing residents in Coombs and Wright.
One letter is full of process-related matters where the Minister really fails to address the key issues that were raised about community concerns.
The second letter also fails to provide genuine answers to questions raised.
Overall, totally disappointing responses to the community on their questions and concerns.
If there are issues that you wish to raise or discuss, please phone the council on 6288 8975.
