Jobs to do in the garden this week
- After the fruit has been picked, passionfruit vines can be lightly clipped with hedge shears. Thin out where congested but major grooming is best done in early spring.
- Buy spring-flowering bulbs while there is a good selection on the stands but save planting until March for daffodils and jonquils or May for tulips and Dutch hyacinths.
- Once stone fruit trees been harvested it’s a good time to summer prune, as cuts will heal quickly. Cut down any competing basal weeds, then lay a thick mulch on top to suppress further growth as well as help conserve moisture.
- Fleshy rooted agapanthus can be lifted and divided after flowering if need be. Overcrowded bearded iris may also be divided now.
