Even with the record breaking heat waves, the water off the south coast is still sitting below 22 degrees in parts.
Then throw in schools of leather jackets and ’coodas havocking anglers – things have been a little rough!

Thankfully, the snapper and flathead bite has been sublime. Lots of pan-size snapper have been caught up and down the coast, and squid baits were the key last weekend. Flathead have been best in 30-40 metres of water.
Eden is still experiencing a good marlin bite, so if you’re in need of a beak, that’s where I’d be headed. Estuaries are still fishing well with Burell Lake, Tuross and Walliga fishing best. All three of these systems have produced some cracking lizards, whiting and bream.
Locally, last week the goldens turned up in good numbers for the Canberra Native Cup.
Fish weren’t schooled up by any means but plenty of rouge fish were caught.
The redfin bite continues to be good around LBG with Lady Denman, Lennox Gardens and around the museum all great starting points.
Googong has been electric with some huge cod consistently caught over the last few weeks.
Redfin have also been very hungry and some good goldens have also been landed, holding tight to trees.
