The owner of Uprite Steel said as a relative newcomer to the sport of drag racing, he is hoping the event at Sydney Dragway will allow him to better his current personal best of 8.90 seconds at 151mph over the quarter-mile race distance.
“Around ten years ago I helped my brother race a Datsun Ute at Sydney Dragway and I always wanted to drive myself but family commitments meant that I was too busy, but in 2017 I was able to finally start having a go myself,” the 34-year-old explained.
“It sure is a learning curve going from helping out on a car to being in the driver’s seat, but I am really enjoying it.

“We are doing a lot of work at the moment playing with the suspension set-up to try and get the best 60-foot distance times that we can, I think people would be surprised that there is a whole lot more to it than you would think.”
Aside from chasing a new PB in his car which has been built “front to back” by Sydney’s Maatouks Racing, Bink is also looking forward to the event itself in an overall sense.
"I missed out on last year’s Sydney Jamboree as my new motor was in the build” he explained.
“I am really looking forward to getting back there, it is one of my favourite events and it has a good family friendly atmosphere as well as a big turnout of sport compact cars.
“We want to see just how fast we can go with the current power and set-up. I will also be focusing on improving my reaction times on the startline and just enjoying being there as a part of the event in general.
“I really have to thank my wife and three kids for allowing me to race, Anthony from Maatouk Racing for his endless support and also Al’s Race Glides.”
The event will feature a full day and night of off and on-track entertainment, with around 200 racers expected to make up a record field.
