Activate Inclusion Sports Day: It was great to help open Sports NSW Activate Inclusion Sports Day (AISD) on Friday, March 22. Council's recently upgraded Q-One Indoor Sports Centre hosted the event and saw participants from across the Queanbeyan and Canberra region engage in a range of sports. AISD is aimed at students aged five to 18 with mental health, learning difficulties, physical, intellectual and sensory disability. The students come to a central location to have a go in a fun and inclusive environment. Thanks to representatives from the sporting bodies for hockey, cricket, basketball, rugby league and wheelchair sports for coaching and providing opportunities to play.

March Council Meeting: The next meeting of council is on Wednesday, March 27. Items on the agenda include the tenders for a new playground at Ryrie Park in Braidwood and a shared path bridge across the Queanbeyan River, consideration of future options for the Family Day Care property in Queanbeyan, adopting a Stakeholder and Community Engagement Framework Policy and more. Find the full agenda on the council website. The meetings are open to the community and are live-streamed via webcast.qprc.nsw.gov.au
Queanbeyan Portrait Mural: Ricky Stuart will be the subject matter for a new portrait mural on a wall of the Bicentennial Hall. The nomination for Ricky came from a member of the community who said that he admired the way Ricky has championed the cause for children with autism and devotes his personal time and influence to set up respite centres to support children and teenagers with autism. The mural will be painted by artist Claire Foxton and is expected to begin on April 5. As part of the project, while the painting is taking place, there will be some workshops with local students from Queanbeyan high schools at a shopfront in Blacksmiths Lane adjacent to the mural.
Googong Road and Old Cooma Road intersection: Council understands that NSW RMS have approved the design for the intersection upgrade and the construction of traffic lights at Googong Road and Old Cooma Road. This project is being constructed by the Googong developers. Council recognises that residents who use Old Cooma Road may have to travel through multiple worksites and is working to coordinate the traffic management between the projects. We ask drivers to plan their trip in advance, be aware of the traffic control measures in place and to drive safely.
