A tight first half saw Queensland take a 12-0 lead, but the lead was cut to five right at the end of the half after good build up play down the left hand side of the field led to a try by Brumbies winger Biola Dawa.
It was one way traffic in the second half though, with Queensland scoring four unanswered tries to cement their spot in the grand final.
Brumbies scrum-half Remi Wilton said a couple of injuries allowed Queensland to get on top.
"It was a pretty hard run against Queensland," Wilton said.
"They always are a very tough competition.
"I think we did pretty well towards the start of the game, and then after a couple of injuries and stuff like that, we dropped our momentum a little and let Queensland get over us towards to the end."
Although losing the semifinal hurt, Wilton was please with the efforts of her side and looked forward to next year.
"It was definitely disappointing to miss out on a grand final spot," she said.
"It's always a bit of a hard thing to take, but we're pretty happy with our progress this year.
"We probably did a little bit better than last year, which is good, so we're pretty happy with how we went and we're just hoping to build on that for next year."
I think having half a new squad is definitely going to have some challenges, just with team bond and combinations, so we were pretty happy with how we went considering all of that coming into play. Looking at building for next year and keeping coaching staff around instead of starting fresh and having to do it all over again.
Everyone's main goal would be to make the grand final as it would be an awesome achievement for us being such a small state compared to NSW and Queensland. If we get into the same position, we'd hope to get into the grand final.
There's a few of the girls looking to play in the Aon Sevens series, so that should be good for our skills and fitness and just a different component of union. It's always good to be improving on my personal skills and hopefully get into the Australian squad as that will always be your main goal.
