The Queanbeyan Netball junior representative player, who plays in goal defence, was selected in the Netball Australia 2019 Netball Centre of Excellence U17s squad earlier in the week.

She was picked after she impressed selectors with her performances at the 2019 National Netball Championships which were played in Brisbane this month.

After watching Malia over the six day tournament, selectors felt she showed plenty of potential to play for Australia in the future.

Queanbeyan Netball Association President Kelly Lolesio was very proud of Malia who is no stranger to being selected and explained her journey to get to this position.

"Malia's achievements were outstanding at this level," Lolesio said.

"This is the second year in a row she has been selected in this squad.

"Malia played her junior netball with the Sunrise Netball Club and represented Queanbeyan at the NSW State Age Championships

"She was talent identified by Netball NSW at 14-years-old.

"Malia went on to play for Australia in the U15s Australian School Girls team in 2017, where her team won the international games."

The defender wasn't the only good news coming out of the tournament as four Queanbeyan Junior players were selected to be in the ACT 19s state team which will participate in this year's National Netball Championships.

They were Sophie Jensen, Olivia Clark and Emily and Caitlin Brady.

"We are very proud of them all," Lolesio said.

Over 20 of Australia's best up and coming netballers were selected for the U17s squad.

Malia will join the squad when they attend the National Squad Camps at Netball Australia's Centre of Excellence in Canberra over the next few months.
