The ACT Budget: There was little to be enthused at in the latest budget from the ACT Government. Yes, there was the additional car parking at Cooleman Court for 150 or so vehicles and while any additional parking adjacent to Cooleman Court is welcomed, how long will it take to be put in place and how will it impact on locals and traffic flow on both Brierly and Parkinson Streets? Where is the new Community Centre or shop upgrades at Fisher and Duffy?
Absence of anything for Molonglo: There seemed to be an almost total absence of any real announcement for the Molonglo residents. Where is the start on the sporting ovals in Stromlo Forest Park - those who want to kick a ball effectively have to do it in the street as the school oval is fenced off. Shops - the residents need services. They are coming far too slowly - nothing really in Coombs and Wright still and nothing really in sight. Where are we at with the Group Centre plans and start. Also, we need the bridge over the Molonglo River to provide a safe second road crossing sooner rather than later. Council has been asking for this to start for a few years now.
The Hydrotherapy Pool at Canberra Hospital: Perhaps our joy at keeping the hydrotherapy pool open is at the expense of it being easy to use. I gather that there are workers all around the pool at this time undertaking work near to it. There is, though, a consultancy going on to try to find a best outcome for all concerned. Council still believes that this pool should not close until there is an alternate pool on the south side.
Possible CIT move to Woden: Council welcomes the possibility of moving the CIT from Reid to Woden. This would hopefully have a very positive impact on the Town Centre as well as offering study possibilities to local students.
Age friendly footpath upgrades in Stirling: The ACT Government has announced that there will be new footpaths and upgrades in Stirling. There is still time to go to yoursay.act.gov.au to comment on what is being proposed.
