Pet of the Week | Tonka

Updated June 17 2019 - 2:43pm, first published 11:21am

This week's pet of the week is Tonka! Tonka is a staff favourite. She has been with us for a few weeks, recovering from a broken leg. Tonka struggled a little - because no kelpie does 'rest and quiet' very well, but overall she has been a very good girl! As a kelpie, Tonka has a high enrichment and exercise requirement and will be best suited to an active home whether that be an active family, runners or bike riders. Working breed dogs are generally loyal to a fault. They also have boundless energy and often high working drive. If they are not provided with plenty of exercise, games and enrichment they will become destructive as they will find ways to entertain themselves. These dogs are not suited to apartment or townhouse living. We recommend Tonka for a family with children 10 years and older. Please remember that all interactions between children and dogs/pups should be monitored. The adoption fee for Tonka is $550 which helps to cover the cost of her mandatory de-sexing, vaccinations, microchip and a lot of care from the RSPCA crew. Who says you can't buy love?!
