The aim is to work out ways to stop the blue green algal infestations that happen every summer when the heat rises.
They commented that the results at this stage were inconclusive.
However on June 18, ACT Senator Zed Seselja and ACT Minister for the Environment and Heritage Mick Gentleman marked the completion of the $93.5 million ACT Healthy Waterways initiative, and announced additional University of Canberra research to inform management of water quality in Lake Tuggeranong.
I am very pleased to hear that their research has been extended for another year and hopefully they will come up with a solution that will then be funded by the ACT government.
Following on from the TCC Youth Engagement Forum earlier this year, plans are underway for organising an interactive session covering future pathways to employment, including talking about tertiary education and the role volunteering has on their future employment opportunities.
The TCC will also be launching two surveys in July/August:
1. As Tuggeranong received very little in the recent budget, we want to find out from the community of Tuggeranong what they want for Tuggeranong, so we can incorporate their concerns into out submissions to government.
2. To follow up on some of the findings of the TCC Youth Engagement Forum and ensure that most young people agree with what was identified in the forum and to also determine what else our young people want for Tuggeranong, so again we can incorporate this into our budget submissions.
The next meeting of the Tuggeranong Community Council will be held at 7.30pm on July 2 at the Vikings Town Centre Club, corner of Athlon Drive and Rowland Crescent, Greenway.
We will hear from Mr Ben Ponton, the Director General of the Environment, Planning and Sustainability Development Directorate, who will update us on where we are at with future planning for Canberra.
We'll then hear about ACT for Bees, an important topic since our food now and in the future depends on bees.
