Locally, it's a great time to catch yellow belly, with Lake Burley Griffin being most productive. Soft plastics and vibes work well, matched with a slow retrieve and as close to structure as possible. Deeper water around Black Mountain and Lady Denman Drive has held schools of small reddies, and there's always natives around schools of reddies.

Googong is also somewhere to check out in the coming weeks. As we all know, it does produce some huge cod in winter. Local angler Will landed a fat-as cod in there last week and the redfin fishing has be sublime, with loads of reddies over 40cm being a regular occurrence.
Cod are feeding up in Burrinjuck and in the Murrumbidgee, and it's all about persistence, patience and hundreds of casts. I picked up a nice cod last week working the same snag for 20 odd minutes, so don't be afraid to stick it out - cast, cast and cast some more. I've been using some custom made LAST Cast spinnerbaits but other large jig spins matched with a large plastic will work well and account for many fish caught. Plenty of fish were also caught trolling large hard bodies in between two to four metres of water, at night and early morning.
On the topic of Burrinjuck, don't forget to register for the 5th Annual Greg Whitehead Fishing Challenge taking place from August 16-18. With over $50k worth of prizes up for grabs it should be in your calendar! This year's competition will be massive and all money raised is donated to the Cure Brain Cancer Foundation.
