The 16-year-old competed at the King of MX Motorcycle NSW state titles at Nowra over the Queens Birthday long weekend and to say it was a success would be an understatement.

He won both the NSW 250 cc C Grade men's title and the NSW 450 cc men's title and was the only rider to win two championships over the three days.

To make things even more impressive, the Hopkins Street street resident wasn't feeling 100 per cent on the day and to add to that, not everything went as planned either.

"My performance on the weekend was quite good considering I was sick at the time," James said.

"Right from the start, in both classes, I set the fastest lap time in qualifying.

"Coming first in qualifying helped me to carry a lot of momentum and confidence into the first race.

"With momentum in my first race, I pulled the holeshot and led for the rest of the race.

"In the other two MX1C races I got decent starts and won them as well, although in the last one I had a small tip over when I caught my brake pedal on a tire close to the edge of the track.

"It was lucky that my brake pedal didn't bend out too far and I was able to get up and move back into first place.

"In MX2C I got decent starts and in the first two races I moved to the front for the win but in the last race I had to settle for second place after having another small tip over when I was pushing hard."

While James said he was very pleased with the results, he did not want to get carried away.

"It was awesome to come away with two state titles," he said.

"Being the only rider to win two has given me a lot of confidence leading into the second half of the season.

"However the win doesn't mean I don't stop focusing on my training and fitness.

"I still need to work hard and continue to push myself further and I'm really looking forward to the Australian super cross series later in the year."
