I ventured to my normal stomping grounds over the weekend and had a great morning session; fish were very active in the shallows and took a fancy to my custom-made Last Cast spinnerbait.
I worked my lures parallel to the bank in two to three metres of water as fish were holding tight to structure.
I'd had plenty of follows but no hits; changed colour, three casts later - bang.
Sometimes all it takes is a little colour change and this weekend was no exception.
I also threw around the Rapala Otus and was quite happy with the versatility of this lure, and will a go-to for me.
Gungahlin Pond is the forgotten waterway. Some bored kids discovered the pond during school holidays and decided to chuck in a line with worms for bait.
The three boys didn't know a great deal about fishing but thought some of granddad's gear would catch a few carp for a bit of fun.
The boys ended up catching four fish - what they thought were carp.
After chatting to the boys about their "camo carp", turns out they didn't catch carp with camo-like patterns, but cod!
In the mountain lakes, fast retrieves across the flats has been the best way to make your reel scream.
Bait fishing from the bank has been a little slow but fish have come on the bite spontaneously.
To the salt, not much to report out wide as the weather has been lousy - not even the commercial boats are heading out.
