I ventured out of Batemans Bay over the weekend to some of my favourite snapper grounds and found that things were pretty tough.
Previous sessions have been pretty good on the reef - if you can find water that isn't plagued by jackets - but this week, barracudas were thicker than I've ever experienced.
I fished mostly with micros jigs and plastics and, let me tell you, I should have bought shares in squidgy plastics and lead, as every cast was either bitten off or absolutely engulfed by 'cudas!
I did, however, find a patch of water nine meters deep that did eventuate in a solid red on a floating pilchard.
Flathead grounds were producing the goods but I would occasionally drift onto patches of jackets that would decimate anything in the water.
On a good note, some serious tuna were caught off Jervis Bay and some pretty good water is hanging around for the time being.
I also headed out for a round of native fishing on my good mate's birthday at the top of the Molonglo River.
We threw around a range of surface and subsurface lures early in the morning to no bingo.
The next few hours we focused predominantly with spinnerbaits, which got some attention in the form of follows all the way to the boat, but still not love.
In the end a Ballista Dyno 90 was what landed the birthday boy his PB cod of 73cm - no better day to break records.
