Motorcyclist dies following crash near Queanbeyan

A man has died in hospital following a motorcycle crash near Queanbeyan on Friday.

Police have been told about 1.30pm, the male was riding along the Kings Highway, near Captains Flat Road, Carwoola, when the bike left the roadway and crashed into a street sign.

He was treated at the scene before being taken to Canberra Hospital in a critical condition, where he later died from his injuries.

He is believed to be a 71-year-old.

Officers from Monaro Police District attended and commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
