Cardinal George Pell, who was born and raised in Ballarat, was convicted of the historical child sexual abuse of two teenage altar boys in December last year.
The verdict of the jury at the Melbourne County Court last year was not made public until February this year due, to a ban on media coverage imposed by Chief Judge Peter Kidd.
Pell immediately appealed the verdict and after a strenuous process, the result of his appeal will finally be made public today.
He has been serving his six-year jail term throughout the appeal process, having been in custody since the announcement of the guilty verdict in February.
The hearing will begin at 9.30am.
