Australia have done what is expected of them with nine points from three matches against Kuwait, Nepal and Taiwan.

After a solid but unfulfilling 5-0 win over Nepal in Canberra last week, Tuesday's demolition of Taiwan at the Kaohsiung National Stadium was a leap forward.

Adam Taggart scored a first-half double for his first international goals in six years, while Jackson Irvine and newcomer Harry Souttar also bagged braces.

There was even time for Jamie Maclaren to come off the bench to add another strike to his hat-trick against Nepal with fellow substitute Ajdin Hrustic making the most of a 20-minute cameo that included three assists.

It was an evening of positives but main group rivals Jordan will be Australia's next opponent and they're a team that have historically troubled the Socceroos, including an upset 1-0 defeat at January's Asian Cup.

"These games are great to build confidence," Taggart told AAP.

"Great to build relationships with each other because that's what you need going in deeper and deeper in the tournament, especially when you come up against tougher opponents.

"It's another step in the right direction and these are the relationships we need to build, especially in the final third.

"Hopefully as the campaign goes on it's going to be even more free-flowing."

Arnold made six changes to his starting XI from the team which began the win over Nepal with Mat Ryan becoming the 62nd man to captain the Socceroos.

Most of the changes had a positive impact with Brad Smith and Awer Mabil a potent combination down the left and Taggart scoring his first goals for the Socceroos since 2013.

"Bit of a relief to be honest. It's obviously been nice to be back involved the last few camps after being absent for a long time so just over the moon to be back a part of it, back amongst the scorers and, yeah, another win for the campaign," Taggart said.

For all the pluses, Arnold wasn't happy with some of the defending by the Socceroos, particularly when Chen Yi-Wei got between central defenders Milos Degenek and Souttar to send a bullet header past Mat Ryan in the 21st minute.

That was the first goal conceded in Australia's campaign but they were other moments where the spirited home team came close to finding the back of the net.

"I was pretty happy with the performance but at times it was a little bit sloppy defensively," Arnold said.

"We've been working a lot on our attacking style of play, our attacking patterns.

"We haven't really worked on defence over the last three months but tighten that up in the next camp."

Arnold was however bullish when asked about the threat posed by Jordan, who have beaten Australia three times in five encounters since 2012.

"I don't look at the past I look at the future," Arnold said.

"What's now and what's in the future and we're building a great belief in this squad.

"You can see the players are enjoying the camps, they're enjoying the way that we're playing."
