Water restrictions in Braidwood and Bungendore: Water restrictions will be in place in Bungendore and Braidwood from Friday, November 22. Braidwood will be placed on Stage 2 water restrictions, which encourages residents to reduce water consumption by 25 per cent. Bungendore will start on Stage 1 water restrictions which call for a 10 pr cent reduction. This is the first time since 2010 that Braidwood and Bungendore have been placed on water restrictions and comes after a long period of below average rainfall. Water restrictions are not required in Captains Flat, with storage currently at 100 per cent, while the Queanbeyan urban area, including Googong, follows the advice of Icon Water which is not currently considering water restrictions. While restrictions are not in place in these two areas, residents are encouraged to be mindful of their water usage and follow the permanent water conservation measures. Rates Harmonisation Community Reference Panel: As part of the process of moving to a new harmonised rating structure for QPRC, council is establishing a community reference panel to form part of the community consultation about the new rating structure. We are currently seeking expressions of interest (EOI) from community members to join the panel. The panel will have approximately 10-12 members selected through the EOI process and appointed by council and will represent a range of ratepayer groups. Community BBQ: We are holding a free community BBQ at Moore Park in Queanbeyan to share ideas about the use of the space. Council's Youth and Community Development staff will be on site and are interested in the local community's ideas about how the space could be used in the future. Come along on Thursday, November 28 from 4-6.30pm. Moore Park is on the corner of Campbell and Crawford Streets, Queanbeyan.
Green Flag Awards: It was an honour to officially receive two Green Flag Awards for Queanbeyan Park and Queen Elizabeth II Park last week. The two parks joined only eight other parks from across Australia to have been awarded Green Flags. The Green Flag Award is a non-profit international accreditation scheme that recognises and rewards well managed parks and green spaces. The Green Flag Award originated in England in 1996 and now flies above more than 2,000 places in over 15 countries.
