The Beatles may not have been the first to say it but they said it in the most memorable of ways when they sang the lyrics ... "and in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make".

Basic, yet profound, it's a life quote that I have carried in my heart and head since I first heard it. And, the older I get, the more I believe in its truth.
The thread that ties us all together, that binds us as family and community is the desire to both love and be loved.
We need a special someone ... someone to share our ups and downs and someone to offer us a shoulder to cry on when we need it the most.
We need the comfort and warmth of that special someone to help us survive the many storms we face during our lifetime as much as we need them to share our victories.
To quote the dictionary definition of love as being "a strong, positive emotion of regard and affection'' is only scratching the surface.
It's both far more simple and far more complicated than that.
The important point that we should not ignore is that, if we want to be loved, then we have to work on being loveable. And it is work.
We have to examine our hearts and souls and put effort into repairing the things that are broken or not working properly.
Honesty can hurt ... but it is still the best policy.
And the Beatles' quote makes no promise of instant return. Life rarely works like that.
It's in the final reckoning of a person's life - the tally that comes after death - that the truth is revealed.
It's only in the end that a true and full assessment can be made.
And, by then, it's far too late for the individual concerned.
In the meantime, every day is an opportunity.
WELLNESS TIP
Lacking direction? Feeling lost and unsure? Wondering what you are doing here?
First, accept that you are here for a purpose...that there is a reason for your existence...that there is a reason for your being.
Next, make it your mission to uncover that reason.
Realise that you are here for reasons outside of yourself.
We can lose focus when we start to believe that we are the centre of our own universe.
Discovering who we are is part of life's journey. The other part is discovering why we are.
