* Twelve new COVID-19 cases were recorded in Australia, just two of them locally-acquired.

* Victoria has gone 29 days without a fresh infection, meaning the virus has been eliminated from the community.

* NSW has notched 21 days without a locally-transmitted case although authorities are urging people to observe distancing rules at air-conditioned shopping centres, beaches and other crowded places in the heat.

* A child from the original family at the centre of Adelaide's Parafield cluster is one of those diagnosed with the virus in SA.

* The other is a man in his 30s believed to have become infected while attending an English language school adjacent to Flinders University.

* The diagnoses bring the Parafield total to 33 people but chief health officer Nicola Spurrier says she is worried unidentified cases are still circulating with only 3840 tests conducted in the 24 hours to Saturday.

* The federal government is working to bring stranded Australians home from overseas by doubling the fortnightly quarantine capacity at the Northern Territory's Howard Springs facility to 1000 people.

* Tasmania has opened to Victoria for the first time in eight months.

* The island state's Museum of Old and New Art will reopen on Boxing Day.

* Telehealth will be permanently subsidised through Medicare after initially starting as a pandemic measure.
