But as the former champion St Kilda rover is quick to point out, his approach is not what you might think.

"When they walk back to their cars, they've got to get their chins up with a smile on their face."

"We lost a game of football," Burke continued.

"You're still all outstanding, wonderful young women, so don't shy away from your family and friends and going out and doing all that stuff.

"Don't let it affect the rest of your life."

The crucial third element involves the Bulldogs shifting their focus to what they can 'Control'.

"If we continue to be feeling like we are now when we turn up Tuesday for training and Thursday, and get on the plane and go to Hobart next week and we're still feeling like we do now, well, we're going to get flogged," Burke said.

The seventh-placed Bulldogs face another huge test against North Melbourne (fifth) at North Hobart Oval on Saturday night.

Both sides enter the contest with 4-2 records, with the race to lock away finals spots heating up.

"We're still in the phase of getting better at how we want to play the game," Burke said.

"It doesn't get any easier from here on in but we firmly believe that our football, when we play it, is good enough to win games.

"When you've got a bit of a young group, the pressure is how long we can play that good football for ... so that's primarily what we'll work on."
