Captains Flat Road upgrades: At last week's meeting, we resolved how to use the $10m grant that we have received from the NSW Government to upgrade Captains Flat Road from Briars Sharrow Road to the Captains Flat village. While the funding will not repair the entire 27km stretch, seven sections have been identified to be repaired. The first two sections of works, which will be done in this 2021-22 financial year, will see more than 9km of road stabilised, including widened pavement and drainage. The 2022-23 financial year will see a 1.5km section realigned and completely reconstructed. The final year of the works, 2023-24, will see 2km stabilised and widened, a further 1km fully realigned and reconstructed and a final 2.3km reconstructed and resurfaced. Vaccination information: There are three different vaccines, AstraZeneca, Pfizer and Moderna, now available to NSW residents. You need two doses of the same vaccine at two appointments to complete the vaccination. Everyone 12 years of age or older is now eligible to receive a vaccine and these can be booked in pharmacies, clinics and GPs in Queanbeyan-Palerang. Go to covid-vaccine.healthdirect.gov.au to find a service near you.
Library update: Queanbeyan-Palerang Libraries have been posting school holiday activities on their Facebook and YouTube pages. There are three activities being published each week showing you how to make fun things with what you have at home. Watch each video at youtube.com/user/QueanbeyanLibrary. The library is also offering a Click and Collect service to bring books to our community during the stay-at-home orders. If you are in Queanbeyan and Braidwood you can reserve up to 15 items for pick up at either library, and if you are in the Bungendore township you can select up to 15 items and the library team will arrange for contactless delivery. For more information and detailed instructions on receiving books from our libraries type bit.ly/lib-cc in your browser.
Free fill - Not Worth the Cost: The NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) and council are reminding residents on rural blocks of the potential dangers of accepting fill on their land. Some operators may be illegally dumping material in the form of 'free fill' to avoid the cost of proper disposal. Before accepting fill on your property remember to: speak to a planner and work out if you need approval to fill, if you do need approval, get approval before bringing in the fill and once you have approval, make sure to supervise the delivery of your fill.
If you're unsure about accepting fill on your property, contact council on 1300 735 025 or call the EPA Environment Line on 131 555 during business hours.
