They were announced as the Southern Inland volunteer team of the year at the 2021 NSW Volunteer of the Year Awards ceremony on Thursday, October 7.

Staffed by volunteers from the Lions Club and the local community, the bookstore has raised more than $80,000 for local charities such as St Benedict's Community Centre, Louisa Women's Refuge as well as Barnardos and Meals on Wheels.

Since the shop opened in 2018, the bookshop has been a central hub for the Queanbeyan Community, a place to chat, browse and pick up bargain books.

It has also provided work experience opportunities for students at Karabar High School.

A principal partner of the awards ClubsNSW ceo Josh Landis said volunteers always play an integral role to clubs and the community, especially during the pandemic.

"After the challenges we have all endured over the past 18 months, the efforts and sacrifices of our state's volunteers feel more significant than ever before," Mr Landis said.

"In NSW we have 32,000 volunteers who help to make clubs such fantastic places.

"Without them, clubs wouldn't be able to accomplish all the wonderful things that they do for their local communities.

"We are so proud to support these awards and I congratulate all the volunteers who were recognised at today's ceremony for their dedication and their commitment."

The Lions Club of Queanbeyan Community Bookshop received one of three awards at the ceremony.

The awards are run by The Centre for Volunteering to recognise the outstanding effort of volunteers working across all sections of communities throughout the state.
