Two people airlifted to hospital after Kings Highway multi-vehicle crash

Two people sustain serious injuries in four-vehicle crash

Two people have been airlifted to hospital following a multi-vehicle crash on the Kings Highway.

Emergency services were called to the scene at Manar, 26km east of Braidwood at 5pm Friday.

Upon arrival, Monaro Police District officers were told a blue sedan travelling west veered onto the opposite side of the road and collided with a light truck and a utility towing a caravan before a semi-trailer, also travelling east, impacted with the caravan.

The driver of the sedan, a man aged 22, was trapped by confinement before being released and airlifted to Canberra Hospital in a stable condition. A NSW Ambulance spokesman said he was believed to have suffered torso injuries.

The passenger of the utility, a woman aged 57, suffered serious leg injuries and was also trapped for a short time before she was airlifted to Liverpool Hospital in a stable condition.

The 58-year old male driver of the utility suffered minor injuries.

The driver of the light truck, a man aged 54, and the driver of the semi-trailer, a man aged 38, were not injured.

All drivers participated in mandatory testing.

A crime scene was established. It will be examined by the Crash Investigation Unit.

The highway remains closed in both directions with traffic diversions in place at Goulburn Road, Bungendore for east-bound traffic, and Nerriga Road, Braidwood, for west-bound traffic.

Police are appealing for anyone with dashcam vision or information about the crash to contact them.

The crash is the third on the Kings Highway in two days.

On Thursday, a 51-year-old man died at the scene of a three-vehicle collision at Mulloon, east of Bungendore.

Emergency services responded at 12.15pm to reports that a Mazda sedan and a truck had impacted, before the sedan and an Audi SUV collided head-on. A man and woman in the Audi suffered minor injuries.

Just after 6pm Thursday, emergency services were called to a single vehicle crash, east of the Goulburn Road intersection on the Kings Highway. Mulloon RFS reported shortly after that the driver was out of the vehicle but debris was on the road. The highway remained open but under traffic control.
