The village of Murrumbateman is home to many inspired and creative people, whether it be making boutique and award-winning wines, delicious mead, great meals or divine chocolates. They are the Makers of Murrumbateman. The Murrumbateman Moving Feast will be held the first weekend in October. All of the Makers of Murrumbateman put an extra effort into preparing food dishes made to match with the wines they have to offer.
The first week in April is another ‘must’ for the Makers of Murrumbateman and all the wineries in the region – Canberra District Wine Week. See www.canberrawines.com.au/events/ for details. On the final weekend, April 8-9 the Harvest Festival will take place, a sample of the Makers of Murrumbateman offerings include:
- Dionysus Wines - choose from a cheese or antipasto platter served in a picnic box and match with wine.
- Shaw Vineyard Estate - food, wine and live music (Kooky Fandango) both days.
- Four Winds Vineyard - music with Ned Philpot and woodfired pizza with matching wines.
- Wins Creek Meadery - beekeeper’s feast platters with gourmet cheeses and meats, Wins Creek honey, chutney and relish, paired with award-winning mead.
- Jeir Creek – participate in the making of Rose of Canberra.
- Gallagher Wines - Moroccan lamb burgers with handmade beetroot relish, with Gallagher Wines shiraz.
- Robyn Rowe Chocolates - four varieties of chocolate gateaux served with cream or icecream, tea, coffee and hot chocolates.
- McKellar Ridge –Saturday – award winning shiraz viognier from three different vintages across the decade. Sunday – Moroccan lamb and salad served with the newly released 2016 shiraz.
- Barton Estate - lunch, live music, art, games across the Harvest Weekend. Harvest platters and cheesecake available.
- Yarrh - Help Yarrh celebrate its 17th vintage with a glass of freshly made 2017 pét-nat rosé, a vintage platter, live music and scarecrow making for the kids.
- Helm Wines - rare riesling weekend with a range of back vintages of helm premium.
- Granitevale Estate – live Irish music by Cassidy’s Ceili all weekend, fantastic food matched to the wine of your choice.
- Murrumbateman Winery – grape stomping, live music by Maddy McGrath, wine, butter chicken, scones with shiraz syrup, vegetarian options and coffee.
