Just before 2.30am Wednesday, officers attached to Monaro Police District were patrolling Lanyon Drive, Queanbeyan, when they stopped a Holden Commodore.
The driver, a 55-year-old man, was spoken to by police and underwent a random breath test which allegedly returned a positive result.
The man, who is a sergeant from a separate command in the Southern Region, was arrested and taken to Queanbeyan Police Station were he underwent a breath analysis and allegedly returned a positive result of 0.173.
He was charged with high range PCA and is due to appear at Queanbeyan Local Court on Monday, July 30 2018.
