Chris said “I will be looking for parts at the Swap Meet for my 1960 Dodge Phoenix so one day I can restore the car. It is amazing what some people come to Swap Meets to look for to add to their unusual collections. Now there are no Holdens, Fords or Chryslers being made in Australia all the cars that come along to our car show are limited editions!”
“I will also be searching for number plates for my collection. I will be looking for number plates like the one I was holding, those two plates are my most treasured in my ones I own,” Chris said.
Chris has lived in Queanbeyan for most of his life and was once a paper boy for the Queanbeyan Age. He now owns a workshop in town and a small property in nearby Carwoola.
He is running this years Swap Meet over two days like last years, which hosted over 500 sites. Goods sold ranged from all eras and include car parts to collectables, books, magazines and antiques.
Site holders travel from all over the east coast of Australia to sell their goods. Over the course of the weekend the event draws thousands of people through the gates. The Swap Meet is an important social gathering for sellers, collectors and car enthusiasts and the car shows always attract more buyers and sellers.
This event will be hosted at the Queanbeyan Showground with the Big Three Car show held on the Sunday. Gates open to buyers from 6:00am Saturday and 8:00am Sunday. General Public entry into each day is $4 per person and children under 14 enter free.
The Big Three Car Show is open to all makes and models of Ford, GM and Chrysler vehicles. Owners are invited to come and display their cars in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. This year the American Car Nationals will be incorporated into the Big Three Car Show on the Sunday.
Entrant’s cars can enter the showground display area from 8:00am. Judging commences at 10:30am, with car show entry $4 per person. There is no additional cost to enter your car in the show.
The swap meet will be on both days, sites are 6x6 metres and cost $20 per day. Site setup starts from midday Friday. Food and drink sales will be by approved vendors only.
