The NDIS has been a real game changer for many people with a disability, and it is a Labor Government policy that I am incredibly proud of.
However, the current Federal Government has dropped the ball in ensuring that the NDIS rollout has been smooth and successful.
I know this from the regular contact that I have from constituents, who express their frustrations with wait times, review mechanisms and obtaining the correct plan.
The task now for everyone is to resolve the problems with the rollout of the scheme to ensure we get the best possible NDIS.
To do this, the Morrison Government must immediately lift the staffing cap on the National Disability Insurance Agency so that when people in the community contact the agency, they are responded to quickly.
This staffing cap is responsible for the long delays we are now seeing in some areas with people waiting months to access the NDIS.
It is also vital that participants can see a draft of their plan before it is approved.
I have been working hard with the NDIS to ensure that everyone who seeks my assistance can have a timely explanation on their plan and in some cases expediting the review process.
This is why I feel that it is so important to bring the NDIS to Queanbeyan, to provide direct advice to those who need it and take on board concerns that are raised by the community.
If you or anyone you know would like more information on the NDIS, please join me on September 26 at the Queanbeyan Kangaroo Leagues Club from 9.30am to 12.30pm.
RSVP to mike.kelly.mp@aph.gov.au. Morning tea will be served and, there will be plenty of time for discussions.
